About SASBA

Heritage in every beat. Progress in every performance.

From SAMBA in 1994 to today’s South African School Band Association, SASBA exists to grow a nationwide culture of musical excellence.

1994

The South African Concert and Marching Band Association (SAMBA) was established as a non-profit association.

2017

The Association recognised the need to remain relevant to the communities it served and officially changed its name to the South African School Band Association (SASBA).

Today

SASBA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation, 200-765 NPO, driving the growth and sustainability of school band programmes across South Africa.

Our purpose

Opportunity should sound the same everywhere.

SASBA supports the growth and sustainability of school band programmes and works with schools of all sizes, across urban and rural communities. We promote equal opportunities for learners to participate in music and to grow through education, leadership, teamwork and personal development.

Through structured musical platforms, SASBA contributes to community upliftment and helps inspire future musicians while creating space for learners to discover confidence, discipline and a sense of belonging.

Why SASBA

More than a band programme.

SASBA exists to drive meaningful change and shape the future of the school band community. We are committed to elevating the standard of school bands through innovation, collaboration, education and opportunities that inspire excellence.

We believe that a strong band programme has the power to transform more than musical ability—it develops leadership, discipline, confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the rehearsal room. By connecting schools, educators, musicians and industry leaders, SASBA creates a platform where talent can grow, communities can connect and young people can discover their potential.

Our purpose is not simply to support the band community, but to actively influence its growth, create new possibilities and leave a lasting impact on the schools and young people we serve.
